Project Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone gives our children tools to handle difficult, but often common social and growing-up challenges.

Project Cornerstone was created in Silicon Valley in 2004 to help children develop critical developmental characteristics that will help them thrive. It has grown from one school to 130 schools in the Bay Area, and reaches over 50,000 children each month.

As part of the program, parent volunteers read a short picture book in every classroom at Cumberland each month, then lead various activities, crafts, and discussions. The books and accompanying activities help give students the tools to handle common issues such as bullying, fitting in, and low self esteem. The tools include peaceful conflict resolution, decision-making skills, healthy lifestyle choices, culture confidence and much more.
